VICTORIA:

Julian Devery, BA/LLB (Monash), Grad.dip.NP (VU), FSNV, FANZCN — Principal Lawyer & Notary Public

Julian is a Fellow of the Society of Notaries of Victoria and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Notaries. In addition to a short period at the Victorian Parliament, Julian has worked as a lawyer at two of Australia's most successful national law firms — including managing teams of multi-lingual lawyers for international commercial litigation.
He also conducted a successful practice as a barrister (specialist court advocate) including arguing appeals before superior state and federal courts.

He is fluent in French and Italian, having lived in both France and Italy, and is a NAATI-accredited French-to-English translator (NAATI: 70570). Julian is an expert in migration law and is a principal lawyer and director of  Visa Law Australia.
Since 2001, new Victorian notaries require a specialist notarial qualification — a one year VU qualification, overseen by the eminent notary Professor Peter Zablud, with instruction by other eminent Australian notaries such as Professor Phillip Hamilton, Michael Bula and Joeseph Lukaitis. A few notaries admitted prior to 2001 also have the VU qualification or equivalent. This additional qualification covers conflict of laws, private international law and notarial practice, aiming to ensure that practising notaries' advice and documents accord with best practice and are not later liable to challenge. It is the difference between ANZCN fellowship and regular ANZCN membership. Julian is the only notary in Australia to achieve a high distinction average for this course.
